Do What “You” Need to Do to Succeed! (Virgin Diet – Day 11, Wednesday, May 28, 2015)

  suitcase 5

( My suitcase packed with my NutriBullet and my Keurig.)

Yes, I’m writing this post super late too!  I know, I know.  Sorry! So my actual post is about the goings-ons of this weekend but I have included my eating from Wednesday.

So Wednesday I found out that I had to go out of town to help a friend who needed to have surgery.  As you can imagine I was very nervous about the always existing question……….What am I going to eat?  Do you guys feel like this question stays at the forefront of your mind?  I mean really, that questions holds the #1 spot of thoughts on my mind like 90% of the time.  I’m probably being too kind to myself – it’s probably more like 99%.  Seriously.  One of my hopes is that through this journey I can move those thoughts down, you know…….to 80%.  Something reasonable like that.  🙂

As I was packing I realized that I had four bags for a 2-4 day stay and 3 of those bags were food related.  Cuz who needs clothes? I need food!  I decided that since I would be in her house all day and night, only leaving to pick up prescriptions, I needed to be armed with all of the foods that have been supporting my new eating plan these past 4 weeks – my go-to foods.  That included coffee and the new tea with almond milk treat I’ve been enjoying.  So along with food, I packed my Keurig and my Nutri-Bullet.  Yeah!   I did.  I was not messing around.  And boy was I glad.  I got to my friends house and her other friends had helped stock her house with all kinds of goodies.  Edible fruit, gourmet chocolate, ginger snap cookies, frozen waffles – the list goes on……all stuff I can’t eat.   And really, all stuff I don’t want to eat.

I mentioned before that I am loving the absence of cravings.  The fact that my body is no longer jonesing for sugar thrills me to no end.  Everytime I have a cup of coffee with unsweetened almond milk and cinnamon and thoroughly enjoy it I feel like a warrior!  I beat sugar!  Woohoo!  BUT- and I will talk about this in detail in a later post – there are cravings……….and then there is desire.

I spoke with my Nutritionist about this last week.  We were talking about even though I don’t have cravings that doesn’t mean that I don’t have the desire to eat sweet things ever again..  With this new eating plan I’ve gotten my taste buds back and that’s great because now the natural sugars taste sweeter.  I wasn’t joking when I said now unsweetened vanilla almond milk tastes good to me.  It does!  Really good!   So I am loving that.  And J.J. Virgin speaks about bringing back more sugar into your life after Phase I and II so it’s not like that eating plan keeps you without sugar forever but it keeps you much lower than I was eating before – MUCH LESS.

So, I’m out of town now (I’m writing this on Saturday, I know so late!) and I have all of staples-  my sweet potatoes, my lentils, my kale, and my gadgets.  And I am so happy I did that.  It may seem excessive but it had to be done.  When we are trying to lose weight we have to be protective of our environment. When we know that our environment is going to change we have to do everything we can to simulate the old environment that we are used to in order to keep our eating plan on track.  Do not be afraid of how silly you look packing your Nutri-Bullet.  Do what you have to do!   Do it!  Stay on plan – that’s all you care about.  It’s okay because you are the only one that’s going to have deal with the remorse if you go off plan.  So you owe it to yourself to arm yourself with all the tools you need to stay on track.  Don’t feel weird.  You’re not a freak.  You’re a winner who will do anything to succeed!  Cheers to you and cheers to me.  I’m of to make a cup of green tea with almond milk……..because I can.  🙂

I’m 34 and still learning how to feed myself

Here’s today’s “Too Much” picture.  Obviously it’s too much.  Most of the time when I’m posting a Too Much picture it’s because I feel guilty, like I’m eating too much which should be my first clue.  But here’s why I ate this.  The spaghetti was leftover and down to the dregs.  I only had about 1/4 -1/3 cup left so I sautéed string beans and ate that on top.  I didn’t think that was enough added some smoked chicken (5 oz.) and roasted sweet potatoes (1/2 cup).  WHAT I SHOULD’VE DONE:  eaten the first part, waited to see if I was still hungry and then ate the rest.

Why I didn’t do that:

I overslept and missed the 7 am yoga so I didn’t go until 9 am and I continued to sleep until 8 am so I didn’t have timet to have my smoothie before class (can’t do Bikram on a full stomach-gross!).  So I ate breakfast at 11 am and I was sooooooooooo hungry!   Then I think the hunger continued into lunch and my eyes were bigger than my stomach.  I know this now because it is 4:00 pm when I’m writing this – 2 hours after lunch and I’m still full.  No Bueno.   So yeah, I definitely overate.

So lesson today:  If it looks like it’s too much food, it probably is and so eat less, wait and if you’re still hungry then eat the rest.  IT WILL ALWAYS BE THERE (God-willing).

It is sad to admit, but I am still working on training myself on how much to eat.  I’d like to get to the point where I feel like I can always eat the right amount of food at every meal – the amount of food that I truly need and nothing more.  And I hope that the work I am doing now, the work that I am blogging about – gets me to this point……one day soon.

Recipe for Thin Thighs: 2 Big Thighs, 1 Barre Class…………and Lots of Prayer

So there was this barre, and it didn’t serve any alcohol, and that right there should’ve told me something was terribly wrong.  🙂

Have you ever tried Barre class?  The class is modeled after ballet.  It uses ballet style moves and adds a bunch of planks, leg lifts and a little bit of yoga.  It works your whole body but the class I take in bootcamp focuses mostly on the lower body.  I’ve taken several other Barre classes with different teachers, a few in different studios but this series of Barre classes in bootcamp is the toughest.

All barre classes are similar, but the experience is quite different depending on who you are.
